GENERAL:

Which driving license do I need for an electric scooter in the Netherlands?

To ride a scooter you always need a moped license. If you have a driving license or motorcycle license you will automatically get the moped license.

From what age can I drive an electric scooter in the Netherlands?

From the age of 15.5 years you can take the theory exam for the moped license in the Netherlands. From the age of 16 you can follow driving lessons and do a practical exam.

Where are you allowed to ride an electric scooter?

Within the built-up area you are not allowed to ride your (45 km/h) scooter on the bike path. Moustache scooters (up to 25 km/h) are allowed. Except in Amsterdam and Utrecht, where all scooters must be on the lane from April/May 2019. Outside the built-up area you must always ride on the bike path. If there is no bike path, you may ride on the lane. Is there a mandatory bicycle and moped track? Then you have to drive on it. Also if you drive inside the built-up area. You can recognize a mandatory bicycle and moped path by a blue round sign with a bicycle and a moped on it.

Where do you park an electric scooter?

All two-wheeled vehicles must be parked at indicated, safe places. Parking on sidewalks is only allowed if this is indicated by appropriate traffic signs.

In which environmental zones can I drive an electric scooter?

With the electric scooter – whether it is 25 km/h or 45 km/h – you can drive in all environmental zones. The UNISCOOTER e-scooters run on electricity and, unlike the internal combustion engine, are emission free.

ACCU/RECHARGE:

How are electric scooters charged?

In order to be able to enjoy the battery for a long time, the battery needs to be charged regularly and correctly. The battery can easily be taken out of the scooter and connected to a standard connection at home, at the company, school or at a charging station.

How long does it take before the batteries are charged?

That depends on how full they are. Assume a charging time of 4 to 6 hours when the batteries are completely empty. With a quick charger you can reduce the charging time.

How do you take good care of your battery?

The lithium battery needs to be charged regularly to support its lifespan. If the scooter is not used for a long period of time, deep discharge can occur. This can cause permanent damage. UNISCOOTER therefore advises to charge the battery at least once a month. Also when you don’t use the scooter.

What is the lifespan of a battery?

The answer is simple: depending on how you handle it. Batteries can’t stand it very well if you first empty them completely and then leave them empty for a longer period of time. So putting them empty in the shed in the autumn, not riding your scooter for a few months and only recharging them in the spring is disastrous. But if you just connect the battery to the charger as soon as it’s really needed and every now and then the battery runs completely empty, the battery will last at least 25,000 km.

Help, the battery runs out and I’m not home yet!

Chances are you’ll just come home. If you immediately slow down and use the Eco-button and – if safe – turn off the lights, you will get more kilometers out of the battery. Don’t try to drive further with a completely flat battery: that can damage the battery. And think of an extra battery charger, which you can use to fill up extra miles at any power outlet, even when you’re on the road.

PARTS/TECHNOLOGY:

How fast do electric scooters go?

UNISCOOTER electric scooters ride between 25 km/h (moped) and 45 km/h.

How does the UNISCOOTER Escooter perform?

The driving dynamics and performance of our electric scooters are determined by the combination of all technical components together: such as battery, controller and motorcycle. At UNISCOOTER you can choose from several models.

What is the range of an electric scooter?

The capacity of lithium-ion batteries in electric vehicles is constantly improving. With one battery you can ride about 60-70 kilometers; with two you can ride up to 130 kilometers. The range strongly depends on external factors, such as driving style and driving conditions. Do you pull up a lot, do you sit alone or in pairs on the scooter, do you have much or little headwind etc.?

What are typical wear parts of an electric scooter?

Unlike an internal combustion engine, an electric scooter has no real wear and tear parts. In principle, of course, everything that rotates and moves can wear out. The batteries and electronic components of the UNISCOOTER electric scooters are very durable and low-maintenance. Condition is that all components are used properly. Depending on the load of the electric scooter many different factors influence the wear and tear. Compared to an internal combustion engine, the maintenance costs are very low.

Can I drive my UNISCOOTER Escooter faster?

Your UNISCOOTER Escooter is tuned according to the legal standards and regulations. If you increase the speed of the scooter, the warranty immediately expires. Apart from that, boosting your UNISCOOTER Escooter will also be at the expense of your range.

MAINTENANCE / COSTS:

What does riding an electric scooter cost on average per kilometer?

Riding an electric scooter is much cheaper per kilometer than riding a normal fuel scooter. Of course this depends on your driving style and speed. But for convenience we can say that an electric scooter is about 6x cheaper than a fuel scooter.

How much maintenance does an electric scooter need?

An electric scooter has no maintenance sensitive combustion engine and therefore almost no maintenance is required. Replacing oil and filters is a thing of the past, an expensive exhaust replacement is also not necessary. This usually results in huge savings.

What do you have to take into account in the winter with an electric scooter?

Below is a short checklist and tips to drive an electric scooter in the winter without any problems:

  • Check tire profile and tire pressure, indicator lights, horn, brakes
  • Adhere to the battery principle: hot charging, cold driving
  • Store the battery at room temperature (due to the viscosity of the electrolyte)
  • Do not leave the battery untouched for months
  • Protect the scooter against moisture (best place under a carport or in the garage)
  • Drive carefully and adapt your driving style to the weather conditions
  • Remove salt residue from the scooter with water and cloth/sponge
  • Protect chrome parts with commercially available preservative spray
  • Install a windbreak (optional)
  • Driving at low temperatures far below zero is possible. But pay attention to the principle: charging warm – driving cold. (It is best to charge at plus temperatures, otherwise the ionic current will be too slow). Riding at temperatures below freezing is no problem for the scooter.

What is the best way to keep my UNISCOOTER Escooter clean?

You can simply wash your UNISCOOTER Escooter with lukewarm water and car shampoo. Do not use a high-pressure cleaner, because the hard jet of water can damage the electronic components and the electric motor in the rear wheel. And you use it to spray the grease out of the wheel bearings.
